Integrate nursing and related sciences into delivering advanced nursing care to diverse populations. (AACNI.1)

Nurses can enhance the integration of nursing and related disciplines into providing advanced nursing care to a varied population. With their unique perspective on the scope of practice, nurses have a unique potential to improve health care, especially for a more diverse and economically disadvantaged population. This goal was partially achieved via the course's discussion of the various bodily systems and their roles in promoting healthy living. When developing a treatment strategy, we as healthcare practitioners must consider the wide range of patients we serve. It's important to remember that although certain communities are more likely to practice unhealthy lifestyles that contribute to illness, others have access to better diet and exercise options. A complete picture of our patient's health, including but not limited to physical evaluations, is essential while providing treatment. In order to make the greatest judgments for our patients, we must take into account their demographics, cultures, beliefs, and particular diets and lifestyles.

Incorporate current and emerging genetic/genomic evidence in providing advanced nursing care to individuals, families, and communities while accounting for patient values and clinical judgment. (AACN I.2)

Patients, their families, and the communities in which they live all have unique genetic and genomic information that may be incorporated into clinical treatment by nurses. The Journal of Advanced Nursing's credibility is only growing. Case studies and discussions on a wide range of people with different lives and beliefs were used to achieve this course purpose. As a result of our open discussion, I appreciated a wide range of perspectives that I had never before considered. Because genetics play a large part in determining our risk of having the same illnesses, we always inquire about our patients' natural family history. We were respectful of one other's clinical judgment and patient values. We were able to ask questions and get answers to our doubts, which helped us better understand what we were learning. I am certain that we will all remember that genetics is an important topic to bring up with our patients in the future. We'll always consider a patient's preferences for medical treatment when making a professional decision.

Compare normal anatomy and physiology to alterations in function and regulation of body organs and systems in response to stressors. (AACN I.1)

Our bodies react to stresses subconsciously compared to normal anatomical and physiologic functions and control of the bodily organs and systems. The hypothalamus controls the stress response, which is controlled by the sympathetic nervous system. Many physiological responses occur as a result of stress on the part of the body. In addition, hormones boost blood flow to the body's critical organs. This goal was addressed in the case studies given in this seminar. As many instances as possible were presented to demonstrate the aberrant behaviours of the body in response to various stresses (i.e., automobile accidents, newlyweds). We were able to go into great detail on anatomy, physiology, and pathology. Many of our responses were similar, yet each brought something unique to the table. We were given a new perspective by being asked questions that challenged our preconceived notions. In the future, we will be able to use this medical expertise and remember to think "outside the box" at times. We discovered new ideas that we hadn't previously explored when working together. We want to continue collaborating with our peers in our field in the future.
