So far in this course, we have explored technology through the lenses of history, the humanities, and the natural and applied sciences. In this module, you will wrap up your draft of Final Project Part One with Milestone Four, and the social sciences lens is the last piece of the puzzle. Look back over the topics you chose to discuss in previous discussions, select one, and reexamine it now through the social sciences. In your initial post, address the following:
In responding to your peers, provide feedback on their topic analysis and describe the value of the social sciences lens for understanding technology.
Make sure you support your post and responses with the readings from this module, and any additional resources as needed.
I reexamine the 'Black Mirror' show from the social science perspective from my previous post. The composition of the series shows the social application of technology and not technology (Albrecht et al., 2018). Also, the series illustrates the dark side of using technology for a long time. In the episodes, the producer demonstrates how things go wrong not because of the technological use but due to the user behavior and usage. Every episode of the show contains a distinct perspective of social interaction and its association with future technological development.
Moreover, the show attempts to show how technology has been etched in our culture. The series has adverse consequences on current social issues (Hayles, 2016). For instance, the show broadcasts real lives as a form of entertainment and negatively broadcasts various forms of communication channels leading to declining interactions among people (Albrecht et al., 2018). The social science lens provides a deep understanding of social problems shown in the series. For instance, it can help shed light on how society can advance and prevent adverse effects of technology (Hayles, 2016). Therefore, social science helps find solutions to social issues occurring in reality.
