After completing this case, students should be able to: - write a report to upper management in executive summary format - strategic reporting that protects themselves and the company - research and understand cultural sensitivity specifically in a business setting - showcase their ability to write in an expository manner Scenario: You are getting disturbing notices from you two lieutenants - Ms. Jaimie Summers and Mr. Peter Sellars who have grave complaints about their subordinates and they are operational director level employees (Summers and Sellars) There are two problems brewing between Head office (where you are located in Fremont, CA this is after your promotion from the office in Taipei, Taiwan) and two locations (Riyadh, Saudi Arabia at the marketing department for M. East and Africa and the printing facility for EMEA located in Warsaw, Poland) Riyadh centered problem: The head of production (Jamie Summers - SHE/HER) in Fremont HQ is currently running into issues with Riyadh office‚ (Jamal Shamar the lead of the office in Riyadh). The first pass at this issue shows a rift caused by sexism with comments by Shamar about that ‚woman‚ and some denigration of women in general but upon deeper inspection the rift is further exacerbated by Summers heavy handed approach in management by going directly to Shamar's subordinates without his aforeknowledge. Warsaw centered problem: The procurement head in Fremont HQ (Peter Sellars) is having a deuce of a time with the Warsaw office's printing location's chief (Bronislaw Zbrinsky). The acrimony began when Zbrinsky's shop came up with reverse prints on this very urgent product introduction. Sellars openly (within the company - blamed Zbrinsky first and then the slipshod manner of his shop. which shocked and puzzled everyone who was not aware of this problem (including yourself)!! A heated email exchange occurred between Zbrinsky and Sellars) which has settled into a very unpleasant cold silence!! You have determined this involves a face to face meeting of the malefactors and so your office books two trips ‚ one to Riyadh and one to Warsaw with you, Jamie Summers, and Peter Sellars. Tell me how you are planning on solving these issues by this setup proposition: 1. Pre-trip the necessary things you needed to have arranged these two trips both is are part of the same trip. The trip is to take this routing order: Riyadh, Saudi Arabia!! 2. During trip Comments made by the various parties - how you planned to execute the approach for both offices. Any new developments which occurred? 3. Post trip after actions which you authorized to solve the problems of which caused this trip to be initiated!! The various actions by the various parties!!! What is your take on the situation as you see it. Are there any important take-aways from these two scenarios? Can any new policy be established so that these cases do not rise up again.
