Universal Jurisdiction - Example Case Transitional Justice in Rwanda

Discuss which form of justice would be most important to you and why. Do you think most of your friends/family would feel the same way? Why or why not?

Reply to at least two people’s initial posts. Also I attached few videos and readings to help writing . it does not have to be one page just a short paragragh .

  • Slide 3: Why TransitReply 1 : In today's society, there are many struggles with the definition of justice. Justice is just behavior or treatment. The problem is who decides what is just and the correct treatment. Many people do not receive justice in the U.S. today and that will probably go on for centuries to come. I personally believe in Procedural Justice which is the idea of fairness in the processes that resolve disputes and allocate resources. It consists of 4 principles being fair, transparent, providing an opportunity for voice, and being impartial in decision making. Though procedural justice may not be perfect. I love how it focuses on police and their willingness to obey the law. This past year alone policing was a huge topic. A lot came to light and a new perspective was brought into play. Transitional justice in Rwanda discusses Truth and Reconciliation Commissions. I do believe transparency and the truth are important but crimes should not be pardoned because of it. I think my family will likely agree with me because although the truth is told sometimes that isn’t enough. Reply 2 : In a world full of so much injustice, the need for true justice to be served is vital. In my own personal opinion, restorative justice is the most important type of justice. Restorative justice focuses on repairing and healing from the crime by having all parties involved come together (under the administration of the community and government) to come to a resolution. By repairing the harm caused by the crime and having the individual who perpetrated the crime hear directly from the victim, everyone (including the community) has the chance to heal and transform. I believe that my friends would share the same opinions about this topic as we are all share similar opinions, but I believe my parents opinions would differ. My parents believe in a strict "law and order" and often use justice and punishment as interchangeable terms. They would favor a retributive form of justice instead of a restorative form.ional Justice? (Links to an external site.)
