Side: Affirmative Introduction Attention: Is the impact of social media on family, society, and individuals threatening? The truth is that social media takes away the freedom of mind as the power of shaping and commanding families, individuals, and society is concentrated on social platforms. The survival of the entire civilization during this digital era is under siege. Social media is dictating every aspect of life. Credibility: My entire family always goes out with family and friends sometimes, but everyone sits alone with their smartphone texting, twitting, or going through their social media platforms. The entire holiday can end without family or friends talking or socializing since everyone is busy using smartphones (Chandramouli, 2011, June). Preview: social media is a significant threat to society, individuals, and families. Major crimes have escalated on various social media platforms since Mark Zuckerberg introduced Facebook and Instagram (Chandramouli, 2011, June). A research conducted by Cambridge Analytica agency indicates that millions of people using Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram undergoes psychological trauma with their daily encounter with internet situation. BODY Social media platforms preferably offer an outlet for idea-sharing. However, this has drastically changed living standards by eroding morals and instilling new modern ideas that are lifethreatening. The nature of threat varies with target groups; for instance, Social media platforms threaten: 1. The entity of society Society is under siege with the current availability of computers, tablets, iPods, and internet-connected phones. With accessibility to these devices, the community is exposed to sensitive sites such as pornographic platforms and other nude displaying Media's cause increase in social crimes like rape, assault, and prostitution (O'Keeffe & Clarke-Pearson, 2011). The younger generation comprising of teens and youths, suffers from psychological problems inducing them to phony cultures. Similarly, cyberbullying activities are escalating as more teenagers face threats from various sites. Since social media emphasizes texting and less on phone calls, people's socialization skills become invincible. This activity is significant harm to interpersonal relationships and community communication. Transition: After I have talked about the entity of society, let’s move to the entity of family. 2. The entity of family Family activities are heavily evolved and dependent on technology. The over-dependence on social media platforms for interaction minimizes family communication as it robes attention and family members' feeling towards each other, wrenching their relationship (Brown, 2020). Children obtain various traditions displayed by celebrities, such as tattooing culture, which can be dangerous to family religious and moral cultures. The majority of married couples with families divorces due to social platform forces (Cox & Paley, 2003). Transition: A research done by the Kaiser family foundation about media influence indicates that children at the age of eight to sixteen spend a lot of their time online and 50% of the remaining on screens hence losing interpersonal skills. 3. The entity of an individual Uncontrolled use of social media creates issues with personal wellbeing, physical, mental, and emotional existence. Social media addiction interferes with individuals' critical daily activities such as assignments, work, and other life obligations (Cox & Paley, 2003). Moreover, exposure to multiple media platforms results in individual misinformation, privacy violation, and political polarization creating low self-esteem and depression. Conclusion In conclusion, social media contribute immensely to people and society's day-to-day activities; however, it is impossible to overlook the impending danger posed to individuals, families, and society. Major crimes trend around the globe trace back to social platforms.
