Expert Solution

Question 1

In this case, the Jersey Guys’ Disc Jockeys, Craig Carton, and Ray Rossi made racist comments on-air. This did not sit well with many listeners, and complaints came flooding in. it also cost the company a lot in advertisements as some major companies stopped working with the company (Bell, 2017). This is a critical issue that can affect the organization’s long-term performance. Apologizing to the listeners is critical, especially since the comments made on-air were offensive to many people. Even so, apologies alone are not enough. The organization needs to come up with a specific response for the actions that show the organization’s stand and makes up for the derogatory comments made by the two DJs.

One important response aside from offering a public apology would be to offer a personal apology to Jun Choi, whom the remarks were aimed. In addition to a public and a private apology, it is also critical to ensure that the public realizes that the company does not support such behavior. Empathizing, rather than sympathizing while embracing the right course of action is vital. The organization should thus take corrective actions. This may involve dismissing the Disc Jockeys from working at the organization or transferring them to another department. Openly acting against the perpetrators will ensure that listeners and partners understand that the organization is not supportive of racial discrimination. The show’s ratings may also rise again.  Essentially, an apology alone is not enough. The organization needs to act.

Question 2

Diversity is vital in an organization. According to Cox and Blake’s ideas, there are several reasons for valuing diversity, most of which are rooted in corporate behavior. Cox and Blake make it clear that effectively manage diversity can help benefit the organization in several areas including cost, marketing, creativity, resource acquisition, system flexibility, and problem-solving.  All these are areas of the organization that is likely to improve when the company embraces diversity.

Cox and Blake’s ideas are relevant to the issue of diversity. Through embracing diversity, an organization can effectively market its products and services to different consumers, meet their needs, and appeal to diverse groups. It can also create a great working environment that reduces turnover rates and keeps the company from spending so much in recruiting and training new employees. Diversity facilitates creativity in numerous ways. This, in turn, promotes better problem-solving skills as the employees bring different expertise and experiences to the company. Diversity also enhances system flexibility due to the unique traits and skills of the workers (Bell, 2017).
