Among most of the notable Canadian Economists that study the transition from non-renewable energy sources to renewable energy sources - the consensus is that we as a Canadian Economy) are not able to simply remove this part of the economy cold turkey, and that we need to be very careful in the policies that are put in place regarding the regulations of the energy sector. A current dynamic issue that has been at the forefront of government policy/legislation is the approval of natural gas and oil pipelines in regions stemming from Alberta. Pundits in favor of pipelines mention that our economy is unable to remain competitive with cheaper cost-producing economies (middle east) due to high transportation costs (oil by rail) and that shipping oil by rail actually is more dangerous and carbon emitting than it would be via pipeline. Meanwhile, more socially progressive thinkers believe that approving the permits of more pipelines is directly in conflict with the government's constant virtue messaging regarding climate change and becoming carbon neutral. Please do some research regarding this subject and let me know where you stand on this debate. What are our current carbon emission policies? Are they effective?
