Issues in Addressing a Solution to Evidence Based Nursing
Inadequate Human Resources:
Evidence based nursing is the process by which the nurses uses the best evidence to make conclusions and decisions that aim at individualized patient care. The main challenge that comes up in an organization, while addressing a solution to evidence-based nursing, is the inadequate human resources availability in the organization.
Human resources are such as the nurses in the organization. A shortage of nurses means that there will be less personnel to implement the evidence based nursing practice. This shortage also leads to an imbalanced nurse-patient ratio. This in turn increases the work load on the nurse side and reduces their accuracy in practice. If the nurse has more patients to deal with, than they can handle, they will have a difficult time trying to analyze the evidence of each patient thus reducing their accuracy. With a reduction in accuracy, the nurse will not be able to make the best decisions out of the evidence gathered; thus reducing the quality of the decisions made during practice. This increased workload also causes the nurses a lot of fatigue which in turn can lead to more cases of negligence in practice. This goes against the main aim of evidence based nursing practice; quality service delivery and individualized care.
