Importance of Planning

To examine the curriculum and planning in an education context, it is vital to gain insight into such circumstances and the essence of such processes. According to Jabbarova (2020), planning is a tool that supports the pedagogical procedure of the teacher, anchoring the organization of approaches connected to the contents of a curriculum and supports elements for a successful teaching and learning process. In this context, planning is elementary. However, planning becomes complex in the designations of the teacher, who requires a knowledge-oriented study to formulate the educational procedure (Leal et al., 2019). I believe that planning possesses immense importance since it allows individuals to gain insight into the reality of the setting to which it aims to be destined and thus perform the organization of the vital components for the pedagogical undertaking. 

The English Standard Version Bible, 2001, (Luke 14:28), argues that before a person desires to build a tower, he first sits down, counts the cost, and calculates whether he has enough to complete it. This bible verse relates to curriculum planning and development in that undertaking an educational approach without a planned curriculum may fail due to unanticipated deficiencies (?epi? & Papak, 2021). I believe that planning is vital for the curriculum change process since it allows the reflection of the backgrounds, priorities, and skills conveyed to curriculum planning by significant stakeholders, including external facilitators, students, parents, and teachers. I have made considerable progress in my planning process for the curriculum change plan, and I look forward to covering more ground in my endeavor.    

 

 

Curriculum Influences

In my elementary school, one of my most exciting teachers used the learned curriculum in most of his lessons. This elementary teacher tested the capability of a student to demonstrate the learning outcomes at the end of each lesson. The test results determine the learning outcomes and determine whether students could achieve them using the set objectives (Hurlimann, 2021).

My middle school teacher utilized the hidden curriculum during her lessons. In this curriculum, there were no initial plans, formally written expectations, or rules. This curriculum was challenging for students from different cultures or backgrounds who struggled to adjust to the new environment. For instance, since the teacher taught us French instead of Arabic or Spanish, other students assumed that the language was a more superior language to learn.

One of my high school teachers utilized an assessed curriculum to undertake her lessons. The teacher used to assess us using random quizzes to evaluate our level of knowledge regarding a particular topic. The teacher used different assessment techniques, including tests, quizzes, presentations, demonstrations, and national standardized exams.

One of my University lecturers utilized the supported curriculum to undertake his lessons. The teacher utilized additional tools and learning experiences outside a regular classroom. The teacher used field trips, textbooks, technology, software, and various other approaches that engaged students in the subject topic. Additionally, the teacher called in professionals from outside to share their experience with the classroom to gain insight into the practical part of the course materials.

My experience with these four teachers has influenced a huge part of my curriculum planning views.  These teachers allowed me to understand that carefully planning a curriculum is key to the students' success. For instance, my middle school teacher, who followed the hidden curriculum, forced hardship on students from different cultures. Furthermore, I learned that an effective curriculum must initiate practical and fieldwork processes to engage students actively on the topic at hand for optimal results.
