The Epstein Barr virus is also known as the human herpesvirus 4 is a member of the herpes family. EBV is the most common type of herpes virus humans get. Most people get infected by it at some point in their lives. Its typically spread by bodily fluids and saliva. Getting infected by EBV can cause different illnesses such as (mono). Most people who get EBV get it as children, but they don’t know because the children don’t really experience symptoms. Teenagers and some adults usually feel the symptoms and they last anywhere from 2-4 weeks. some common symptoms one might experience from EBV are a rash, swollen liver, enlarged spleen, fever, fatigue, inflamed throat, and swollen lymph nodes on the side of the throat. For most people, once you get infected by the virus it becomes inactive in your body. In some cases, the virus might reactivate. Depending on your immune system the symptoms may activate as well or not. Like I said it is mostly spread through saliva and bodily fluids, but other ways it can be spread is by organ transplant, blood transfusion, and even with semen during sexual intercourse. It is important to make sure we sanitize everything as best as we can, kissing others can spread the virus having children who put toys in their mouth can get it to it is not clean even sharing food or drinks. if you can avoid it it's better to not share to avoid getting EBV. There is no vaccine to prevent EBV there is also no specific treatment for EBV what doctors recommend is that you drink plenty of water as much as possible to stay hydrated, have plenty of rest and take over-the-counter medication. if you feel as if you might have it can be tested by blood, 9 out of every 10 adults carry the virus.
