The objective of the project is to use differential equations to describe a biological system. You should prepare a report that includes the following sections: background, methods, and results. Your report should include a description of the system, the model, and the result of numerical simulations performed using the methods discussed in class (you can also use additional techniques not discussed in class). The report's maximum length is 15 pages; there are no minimum length requirements.

 

The background section should include a detailed description of the biological system under study, the assumptions used in creating the mathematical model, and a description of the equations. You should clearly explain what each equation describes, the model parameters, and the relations between equations.

The methods sections should include a brief description of the numerical methods used to simulate the mathematical model. Note that numerical simulations can evaluate the functional effects of changes in the model parameters.

The results section should include the results of your simulations (plots). You should also describe if the results of your simulations make sense (remember that you are modeling a biological system).

Finally, you are encouraged to include a section in your report that compares your simulations with real data. This section is not required, but it would provide a boost to your final grade if included.
