In every individual, the procedure of perceiving anything tends to cause an alteration in what humans observe. When people see things with a fixed mindset, they usually absorb those mentalities and see them as if they are present or not. One meaningful exchange that I can recall where I perceived a situation differently than my partner is when we were discussing the subject that education is essential for someone to achieve success. However, his opinion was different because he perceived that anyone could be successful even without education. Therefore, I had to select good communication skills to interpret his opinion that was different from mine. First, I decided to pay good attention to his arguments without being judgmental. Secondly, I decided to give my opinion with different evidence that will make him understand my argument. After that, I listened to what he had to say with attentiveness. Lastly, we decided to focus on the subject's reality with deep consciousness that eliminates the misconceptions of the matter. At the end of the discussion, I successfully negotiated the perception that we shared since we finally came up with one alternative that neither diminishes the concept of any of us.

Interpersonal communication and the perception of individuals can be influenced culturally, socially, physiologically, or psychologically because the environment and background in which we come from shape and alter our perception towards a specific concept. For instance, making a wrong decision of smoking based on particular believes associated with health. Psychologically, the effect is mainly impacted to the brain where someone is always overwhelmed with tension and anxiety, making someone believe that he is relaxed, yet it is just a temporary feeling. Besides, the physiological effect is when a person becomes a regular smoker, the lungs become damaged, thus facilitating various breathing complications and lung problems such as cancer. In addition, smoking has also generated some cultural effects that most communities are trying to fight off, especially the act of people becoming violent to others, different religions coming up with anti-smoking campaigns, and the male gender being more engaged in smoking habits the females. Lastly, smoking also has a social impact, especially on the people who are within the environs of the smokers, the major one being isolation and stigma since most people in the community don't want to associate themselves with individuals who are addicted to smoking habits because they believe they may also become part of them.
