Community health assessment through community-based participatory research is identified as the most effective approach to Institutes of Medicine's "The Future of Public Health." The issue of asphalt problems, addiction among relatives or people from one locality, and lack of easy access to medical care are critical factors that drive community assessment. Ahari.at el conducted a researcher paper on this topic to assess the effectiveness of the community needs assessment in addressing community health challenges. The paper evaluated the effectiveness of community health assessment in the urban region of Ardabil, Iran. The study aimed to determine how community assessment helps improve the quality of the service through the self-reflecting process.
The study used Participatory Action Research (PAR) to select the community for assessment. This approach was based on the existing theories of community mobilizations, empowerment, and participation1. The process involved six steps that facilitated the analysis; stage 1 was establishing the steering committees, level 2 was determining the approach, and step 3 involved selecting the trusted and interested participants from the executive committee. In step 4, the knowledge was transferred, phase 5 was data collection, and finally, step 6 was an interpretation of the collected data ad prioritizing the needs. Trained agents collected data. The agents collected data using observation-focused group and community interaction. The committee held group discussions in twelve areas of study with an average attendance of 9 to 15 participants. Three group discussions were conducted by agents who were conversant with Persian and Turkish languages. The study collected data from local retailers, homemakers, state staff, trustees, and active youth from the local environments and senior citizens. The team had someone who took notes and recorded the details in every discussion for analysis. The steering committee agreed to apply a mixed model that consisted of a survey and a focused group discussion on analyzing the data.
