Rubric for Journal Postings It is important that you understand what is expected of the journal postings in this class. There will be six Journal Postings throughout the semester. The goal is for you to research and better understand those who represent you at the state and federal level. Journal Postings will be due at the start of class time the day they are due. If you miss a deadline they are not to be made up, please plan accordingly. They will be graded on a scale from 1-5 points, and discussed in class as a group. (The lowest grade for the semester will be dropped.) Each essay should: (1) Discuss the following in relation to the topic: a. How the individual came to the position they are in (i.e. their path). b. Key agendas, voting behavior (if applicable), and other topics of related to their actions (both formal and informal) in the political arena c. How their actions (including all mentioned in 1b.) could impact your daily life and that of your friends and family d. Use reputable sources for this section and cite (NO Wikipedia or similar sources) (2) If appropriate, use theory from the book or other sources which applies to the topic being discussed. (3) Be at least 450 words in length (4) All information MUST be sourced within the journal posting (in-text citation) as well as at the end of the posting. You may use any formatting with which you are familiar, as long as it is consistent throughout. Senator Bob Casey Jr is a current United States senator from Pennsylvania, serving under the Democratic Party. He has been in office since 2007, with the current term ending on 3rd January 2025. For instance, he voted in support of the bill towards blocking the border wall as an emergency declaration (Ballotpedia, 2021). This motion passed and managed to block President Trump’s unconstitutional move of bypassing congress and allocating more funds towards the Mexican border wall project. This is followed by taxation and social welfare motions. Therefore, his bills are transformational and are focused on the interest of all Americans. Moreover, his focus on education and employment influences the future of many Americans who are still jobless or currently in school. If these bills go through, there is a promised change in the current education and job sectors. Also, his interest in Mexican immigration and border disputes shows his compassion and passion for maintaining effective regional cooperation with neighboring countries.
