What is distinctive about El Filibusterismo compared with Noli Me Tangere? How did this novel contribute to national consciousness and the revolution?  

El Filibusterismo and Noli Me Tangere are both great novels written by Jose Rizal.

However, El Filibusterismo is more distinctive comparing to Noli Me Tangere; especially in terms of national consciousness and revolution in the country of Philippines.

Why?

First, El Filibusterismo is a novel that is specifically tackles about politics on the time of Spanish colonization in the Philippines. It also directly attacked the Spanish government as a symbol of Rizal's anger and revenge dedicated to the death of GOMBURZA. 

While with Noli Me Tangere, it is only a novel about the love for one's country. It is also a novel that only tackles about how Filipinos must be genuinely educated. However, it does not have the rage and hunger for revolution for freedom comparing to El Filibusterismo. It is only about loving one's nation, but it is not about fighting for our rights to be free. Therefore, that is one reason El Filibusterismo is more distinctive compared with Noli Me Tangere.

Second, El Filibusterismo is more distinctive compared with Noli Me Tangere in terms of how each of the stories went.

Noli Me Tangere is thoughtful and romantic in a way that it shows Crisostomo Ibarra; its main character, as a soft and kind man. However, El Filibusterismo is more distinctive because its story is full of actions or motions. It tells a different kind of Crisostomo Ibarra who is angry and vengeful for what the Spaniards did to him badly.

Third and last, El Filibusterismo is more distinctive than Noli Me Tangere in a sense that it opens more the eyes of many Filipinos to national consciousness and revolution.

If Noli Me Tangere's story served its purpose in a way to make Filipinos realized that education is the key for sense of identity, El Filibusterismo served a much greater purpose in which it became the trigger for Filipinos to finally move. It became the key to a genuine national consciousness by opening many minds to the truth that Spaniards was really abusive. It made many realized and became conscious to the fact that Spanish colonization did not really brings friendship, but rather made Filipinos as slaves. Hence, since the novel made people angry and made many hungry for freedom; it finally became the cause for Filipinos to revolt. We can see that when Andres Bonifacio initiated the KKK revolution and it is all because he was inspired with Rizal's writings; especially El Filibusterismo.
