Human-focused lighting uses artificial light to imitate the 24-hour cycle of light in which human bodies are adapted. The right light is balanced by reproducing natural color variation at the optimal time of day, which improves our energy levels and overall well-being. Goscha adds that light is designed to assist the population through organic, emotional health, and well-being. It is not light, which is just made for a beautiful look—although in a space lit by beautiful light, we feel better—it is not simply to assist us to see you and have the light (McIntosh, 2021). The correct light is there to assist the health and well-being of your body.

Prior to COVID-19, almost 90% of individuals spent indoors. This meant an external commute time during an average working week and perhaps an afternoon or evening outdoors. Now we are spending even less time outdoors feeding our bodies with natural light, with many individuals still working from home. The balance between natural and human lighting in the workplace and this 24-hour cycle can increase productivity and improve mood. The Design Manager at Ted Moudis Associates, an enterprise specializing in workplace design, Michelle Beganskas, believes that there are several necessities to satisfy light for the task at hand, such as equal illumination and glare reduction (McIntosh, 2021). But what about increasing office productivity. In my course, I can apply this concept in coming up with critical thinking ideas on improving our workplaces. This is important in improving societal systems and people's health because, with proper materials and coatings used, people's well-being will be guaranteed in all ways.
