Personal statement

Please write a personal statement of no more than 5000 characters, addressing the following three points:

  1. Focusing on your first choice of institution, please explain your academic motivations for applying for an exchange
  2. Please elaborate on the qualities you have which would make you a good representative for the University of Edinburgh, citing examples from your extracurricular activities
  3. Please explain how this opportunity would benefit you from a personal perspective

You should give equal weighting to each point.

This statement is your opportunity to explain why you believe should be allocated a place on exchange.

When writing your personal statement, please focus on your first-choice destination - your statement will only be used by the University of Edinburgh, and your host institution will never see it.

Keep in mind that an exchange is an academic programme and your statement should reflect this.

As your personal statement will be marked anonymously by your peers, you should avoid the use of names, or any information that could potentially identify you.

Once you have submitted your exchange application on Mobility Online, you will then be required to submit the personal statement element of the application to PebblePad, where peer-marking will take place. Detailed information on how to do this will be provided upon confirmation of application.

The personal statement you upload to PebblePad should be identical to the one you submitted on Mobility Online, so it should be relatively quick for you to copy this over.
