A welding procedure specification has to be written for joining two dissimilar metals namely OFHC Copper and AISI 304L stainlesss steel both 5mm thickness plates for reactor application. Joint Design, welding design, process variables, consumables, preheat and intervals temperature control, post weld treatment , potential defects and difficulties should be discussed. The report should be completed with proper references. Atleast 7 journals. Wps chart and assignment description is provided with the attachment. Wps chart should be filled.Minimum 1700 words.

ASSIGNMENT 2
QUESTION:
You are required to develop a welding procedure specification (WPS) for successfully joining two dissimilar metals. In this assignment an oxygen-free high conductivity copper (OFHC) (UNS number C10200) has to be welded to type AISI 304 stainless steel for a reactor application. An arc welding process has to be used. Assume a plate thickness of 5 mm for both materials and note that distortion control is critical in this application. The nominal chemical compositions of the base materials are given in the table below.
You have to use the library and other sources of information to identify any difficulties associated with this particular dissimilar metal combination, to identify particular defects that may form, and to gain a thorough understanding of the metallurgy of the joint. You then have to design a welding procedure, with special emphasis on the following:
- Joint design and welding sequence (5 marks)
- Welding process (5 marks)

Process variables (5 marks) - Consumables (10 marks)
- Preheat and interpass temperature control (10 marks)
- Post-weld heat treatment (5 marks)
- Potential defects and difficulties (10 marks)
Each student will be required to submit the welding procedure specification and a short report describing how you arrived at this welding procedure, motivating your choices and any assumptions made (a maximum of 2500 words, excluding references). For your information, a WPS template from EN 288-2:1992 is attached.
