Risk Communication: Proposal in Plain Language 

Assignment 5: Risk Communication: Proposal in Plain Language (10% of course grade) -- In this final assignment, you will identify 3-5 key messages from your final paper for the affected community and you will deliver those messages in a presentation using Voice Thread. Your presentation is due next week, week 8 on Wednesday. 

You have a choice of three options in what your final product will be.  All three options require you to target your communication for a public audience outside the field of environmental health, such as city council, community stakeholders, policymakers or the media. Know the audience you are addressing by focusing on a few key messages and using language that will be understood. All options should include some sort of visual representation to help explain your topic. 

Your grade will be based on how clearly you identify and express three or more key messages from your paper that are important to the audience, and your use of plain language. 

Option 1: Press Release -- Write a one-page press release for informing local or regional media (newspapers, television, and radio). Explain your issue and recommended action or intervention in 1 page or less.

Option 2: Community Forum -- Imagine you are presenting at a community forum, where various stakeholders on the issue might be present. You have just 5 minutes to present your key messages and recommendations. You have a limit of up to 6 slides. You may produce a presentation or handout that would be used at the forum. 

Option 3: Infographic -- Create an infographic that can be used in various ways (flyer, website image, social media, etc) to inform the audience, and deliver your key messages. You'll find many examples of environmental health infographics on the internet. Limit this to 1 or 2 pages. Here are resources you can use to create your infographic messages:
