Could the Civil War have been avoided? Why or why not? If given the opportunity, what would you have done in order to possibly prevent the war? (Instructor’s Note: Do not give a vague answer such as “Get rid of slavery.” I’m looking for specifics and for you to possibly prevent it in such a way that will satisfy both sides.) Were the Southern states justified in seceding? Why or why not? Was Lincoln’s prosecution of the war and wartime policies justified? Why or why not?
