Cellular respiration occurs in the double-membrane organelle called the mitochondria. The folds in the inner membrane are called cristae.

There are three processes in cellular respiration. The first process is glycolysis which occurs in the cytoplasm. Next is citric-acid cycle or Krebs's cycle which occurs in the matrix of the mitocondrion. Final process occurs in the cristae, this process is electron transport chain coupled with oxidative phosphorylation
