The chapter gives examples of ineffective listening, reasons why we don't listen better, and descriptions of listening responses

I feel like I have done all the types of ineffective listening (oops). But I am more a "Selective Listener". For example, I had an argument with my boyfriend and he was telling me his side, but all I heard was the bad stuff. He would always tell me, "I only hear what I want to hear". I think the reason for my ineffective listening is to point out his faults and get an upper hand in the argument. Selective listening is something I want to work on. I want to better approach the situation by attentively listening to what he has to say and to not interrupt. "Questioning" is the listening response I would use in the future because I want to better understand the situation or problem.
