affects all objects the same way - including humans. It states that objects at rest will remain at rest and objects in motion will remain in motion unless there is an outside force.

This is why you slide to the right of the car when the driver makes a hard left turn. Your body tries to continue to go straight because of your inertia. It is the car that is turning - you are going straight.
