Creating an annotated bibliography calls for the application of a variety of intellectual skills, including appropriate library research, critical reading and analytical skills, as well as the ability to accurately describe a source in a concise manner

English

Creating an annotated bibliography calls for the application of a variety of intellectual skills, including appropriate library research, critical reading and analytical skills, as well as the ability to accurately describe a source in a concise manner. For your annotated bibliography, you will be required to write a concise annotation that summarizes the central theme and scope of a book, article, journal, website, or any other source. Your annotations will be analytical, which means you will summarize as well as analyze the source.

For this assignment you will:

  • Use the same topic that you used for your causal argument, but now your focus will be on proposing solutions to the problem(s).
  • Choose your sources: Before writing your annotated bibliography, you must choose your sources. You will annotate all seven (7) of the sources which you would use in a research paper.
  • Write the citation and annotation: When writing your annotation, the complete citation should always come first and the annotation follows. Your citations must be written in MLA format. For examples of this, please see: samples of annotated bibliographies (Links to an external site.)
  • You must first describe the source in 3 sentences minimum, and then analyze it in 3-4 sentences minimum.

You must:

  1. Include a summary/description of the article, essay, book or website.
  2. Then tell me if it is a useful source: Is the information reliable? What is the author's credibility? Is the source biased or objective? What is the goal of this source?
  3. Discuss the strengths and/or weaknesses in the material.
  4. Tell me how can you use this source in your research paper and how it compares to other sources you have found.
