Assignment 2: Problem Formulation and Proposal (SLO 1; 10% of course grade)

Read the four problem choices in the attached Problem Formulation document below and select one.  This will be your topic for the remaining summative assignments in this course (assignments 2-5). All of these topics come from real-world problems that occur in our communities.

Describe briefly, using core concepts learned from the first 2 weeks of class, and the Epidemiological Triangle, the community environmental health problem topic that you propose to study for assignments 2-5. Think of this paper as an introduction for your final paper. You must describe the specific community affected and the specific issue they are concerned about. 

• • Describe the problem

    • Host (What community is affected? Who is most vulnerable and why?)

    • Agent/Hazard (What is the hazard? What is its effect on public health?)

    • Environment (Where does this agent occur? What is the source?)

  • Why is it a problem?  What other factors may be contributing to this problem in the community?

Next, you will define the key search terms you will use to research and list 3 peer-reviewed sources that relate to your topic following APA guidelines for proper references. Refer to the eBrarian modules from MPH600. Your search terms should narrow down the focus of your topic, while also giving you enough sources to conduct further research. This assignment should be 2-3 pages, following APA guidelines.
