In writing this critical evaluation, you will need to ascertain both the story presented by the institution and what you believe to be the current historical interpretation offered by modern researchers about the event or time surrounding the institution. To be successful in this you should apply the readings from the class and any outside research you desire to help you understand the contemporary interpretations that act as a foil to the stories presented at these institutions of public history. Obviously, you'll need to use both your notes from your site visit and you'll need to use current scholarship about the period provided either in the suggested readings or through your own research. Begin your essay by contextualizing the public history institution into the time period, then create a thesis that evaluates the efficacy and accuracy of the story presented at the museum and it's relationship to contemporary interpretations in modern historiography.
