Child Observations

Students will conduct on-going observations of children’s development using anecdotal recording techniques, interviews, and a collection of children’s work. Place the observations of the focus child in his or her portfolio.  For the interpretations of the focus child, you will be expected to tie theory and research to your observations.  Use readings assigned in this internship as well as readings from prior early childhood classes. Do NOT use the Early Childhood Indicators of Progress for observations, use textbooks. Please use the following format when recording observations and interpretations on the focus child. At least one observation should be collected each week. Be sure to collect observations on all developmental areas including social, emotional, cognitive, language, and physical motor.  

Legend: Developmental Area: What area of development did you observe (social, emotional, cognitive, language, physical motor)?; Time: What time did you observe?; Date: What day did you observe?; Program: What is the name of the center or school?; Name: What is the name of your focus child?; Age: What is the age of your child?
