7.2.1 Writing situation analysis / outline

Writing situation analysis

To prepare your document, answer the following:

• Context: What is the organizational context? Use material from your organizational analysis and research proposal. What more can you say?
• Purpose: What is your purpose? To recommend solutions to address a sustainability problem or challenge in your organization. Can you explain your purpose more specifically?
• Audience: Who is your audience? Is it one person or group of people? Does this audience have decision-making power to implement the solutions your recommend? (It must.) What are its needs and values? What information do they need to make a decision?
• Medium: What is the medium? The medium is a formal report.

Write your answers under headings for context, purpose, audience, and medium.

Outline

Write an outline with a title and descriptive headings that provides the storyline of your report. Under Introduction, define the business problem or challenge in two or three sentences. Under Recommendation(s), explain each chosen solution in one or two sentences.
