In this module, you were introduced to three notable types of threat actors that have emerged from the cyber landscape as threats to organizations’ cybersecurity, namely nation states, cyber criminals, and insiders. You were also introduced to the methods of attack these threat actors most commonly employ, and the types of sectors they target.    

In this ongoing project submission, you are required to complete the first part of your risk mitigation strategy by identifying and analyzing potential threat actors to your organization

As the cases in this course have shown, it is often near impossible for organizations to anticipate the exact source of a cyberattack until it occurs. The purpose of this ongoing project is not necessarily for you to accurately identify potential threats, but to show your understanding of this module’s content by justifying their potential danger and possible methods of attack. Address the following points in your analysis:

• What aspects of the sector your organization operates in makes it vulnerable to the threats you have identified? Explain why.

 

• Identify between two and three potential threat actors to your organization. Justify your reasoning by describing a possible scenario of what methods of attack these threat actors could use, and why.

How are cyberthreats changing perceptions of risk? (Make 2 different write up on this and each write up must not be more than 200 word.) 

Insight

Michael Nadeau’s article in which he discusses future cybersecurity threats and challenges. In the article, he argues that for the internet to thrive, it needs to be trusted, safe, and easy to use. He also makes clear that the internet has increasingly become a matter of national security. As a result, he predicts that policies that prioritize national interests may directly undermine many of the advantages associated with the internet, like the free flow of information. 

Having read the article (and having drawn insight from the guest speakers in the video), consider the following questions: 

 

• Do you agree that there will be “security divides” between governments, individuals, and businesses that have varying capabilities to protect against threats? If so, how will this impact an organization’s assessment of cyber risks? 

• Given your own organizational context, what new business risks do you foresee arising with the rise of cyberattacks? How can an organization mitigate these risks?
