Manuscript Critique

This assignment will demonstrate the student’s ability to evaluate and interpret a research article posted below. Students will critically analyze the validity and credibility of the study based on the following questions:

• • What type of epidemiological study is the article?

  • What type of intervention is the research based on (i.e. evidence based, practice based, strategies grounded on cultural knowledge and wisdom,  etc)?

  • What assumptions are made in the article? study limitation? study strength and weakness? areas in need of improvement?

  • What are the research limitations?

  • Is this article consistent with other findings about this topic?

  • What were the main conclusions? Do you agree with the conclusion(s)? Why or why not?

  • Would you use this paper when designing an intervention? Why or why not?

  • Would the finding of this article apply to all populations? Why or why not? What considerations need to be made to address social justice in the interpretation or application of these results?

Students will write up their analysis in a 5 page paper, not including their bibliography. Students will follow APA citation guidelines. Students will also prepare a 5 minute presentation, focusing on the higher levels of their findings, including 6-8 slides supporting each main question. Students should include an additional slide with their bibliography, formatted using APA guidelines. Students should be prepared to answer questions posed by the instructor and fellow students.
