1. Natural Disasters and Fiscal Policy in Small Pacific Island Economies: Impact, Policy Options, and Challenges  

 MARKING RUBRIC

Students should have a maximum of 4 arguments under each theme. You are expected to discuss a maximum of 4 arguments under individual themes (Impact, Policy Options, and Challenges). Each argument is worth 4 marks.

 The student has sourced the argument(s) from a reliable source (s), evaluated the argument critically, and discussed the link/relationship in detail using relevant examples, case studies, published papers, and statistics from relevant economies in the Pacific region. The arguments are well-constructed, well-written, and make sense from a policy analysis perspective. Student has appropriately referenced the source of the arguments. 

 Marks will be awarded based on quality, conciseness, flow, and appropriateness of arguments. Students are expected to read selectively but critically from reliable sources including journal articles, research reports, government reports, policy briefs of organizations such ADB, IMF, and World Bank, and construct arguments. Generic arguments from random internet sources are not acceptable and attract very low marks.
