Health Care Delivery Models and Nursing Practice

Today’s healthcare is in a state of complex constant change. With the passing of the Affordable Care Act in 2010, changes in healthcare have occurred that directly impact a patient’s ability to receive healthcare and preventative care. New healthcare delivery models have emerged in the hopes of providing quality care at the greatest value to the patient (McNiff, 2018). This paper will outline and discuss current federal legislation for safe staffing ratios, specifically “Nurse Staffing Standards for Hospital Patient Safety and Quality Care Act of 2019” (S 1357) (HR 2581), how quality measures and pay for performance (P4P) affect patient outcomes and nursing practice, the professional nursing and leadership roles that have emerged as a result of health care reform, and current emerging trends in nursing.
