University of Texas, Arlington - NURS 5350

The DNP movement in Nursing has not been widely explored. In my opinion, DNP prepared nurses can be utilized in number of areas and patient’s outcome can be improved in any place of employment. Nevertheless, it can be more beneficial in one practice than other but the goals are same, which is to improve patient outcome. Pursuing DNP education depends on practice setting one is interested in and plan to work in. In my opinion, DNP should not be a requirement for new APRN, but considered once appropriate experience is gained.Healthcare is evolving and things becoming more complex, innovative treatment plans are being developed. With these changes, nurse and advance nurse practitioner should continue to educate and gain experience to meet the developing demand. According to the Newland (2018), “many DNP programs focus on preparing clinical leaders or graduates who have the skills to make a difference to improve the quality of care, health outcomes for patients, and systems of care delivery” (p.6). If the skills are gained through practice, it will be challenging to bring change in practice.

Additional article addresses the current standard of practice for a DNP and

1.  how it has evolved over these few years (Bowie, DeSocio & Swanson, 2019).

2. showed how the DNP education helps boost confidence in advanced practitioner to become equal leaders and help bring in change using evidence-based practice and applicable teamwork (Bowie, DeSocio & Swanson, 2019).
