Assignment:   Test & Evaluation of the IED-Detection Robot System

Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) have been and continue to be a serious threat to military forces and to civilian populations.  You are a lead systems engineer with Advanced Robotics, Inc.  DoD has asked your company to develop a remotely-controlled portable robot system to support area clearance of IEDs in both urban and remote (rugged) environments.  This system is responsible for the identification of IEDs.  The neutralization or destruction of the IEDs will be handled by other systems or operators.   

1. Develop a system integration concept for the IED-Detection Robot:

- Identify subsystems, subsystem interfaces, and system external interfaces.

- List three reasons that a modularized design for the IED-Detection Robot will support systems engineering objectives during the system lifecycle.

- Be creative and discuss how the IED-Detection Robot system could integrate with an external system to benefit overall IED detection.

2. Develop a test and evaluation strategy for the IED-Detection Robot:

• Discuss how the system will be tested and evaluated. 
• Identify test facilities that will be needed and describe how they will be used.
• Describe how you will conduct developmental and operational tests.
• Identify three evaluation criteria you will use to test the system against.
