What are barriers to entry?
Competition is typically limited because there exist some barriers to entry that prevent new firms from entering the market. Examples of barriers to entry include high start-up costs and exclusive rights given to the firm to produce and sell their product. These barriers can either be very strong (prevent any new firms from entering) or weak (prevent some firms from entering, but not all).
