In operations management, control and monitoring performance for better results and improving productivity are key to any organization. Explain why control is needed and provide an example of an auto company where there may have been lack of control and what potential outcomes for that company were?
Answer:
Control and monitoring of performance of the employees individually and as a team helps in understanding the situation of the company and what changes need to be made to improve it. Constant control and monitoring makes the number of errors less and gradually the system will be perfect and well maintained. If there is no control , decisions might have errors which leads to complete failure of the process. In auto companies if there is no proper control work gets deviated and as a result the products might not have required performance metrics. For example, an auto company came up with the project of a product which would make the company top in the league. Due to lack of proper control, the manager took some decisions without consulting the team and due to this the product lacked proper performance and this effect falls on the company as a whole. Hence proper control is very important for any company.
