For this assignment, you are first required to watch a brief TVN video with Chilean artist Alfredo Jaar. Click here to watch the video. As you watch the video, keep the following focus questions in mind: What is the role of the art in contemporary society? What is the role of the artist in contemporary society?

After you’ve watched the video, and in place of a visit to the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, please view this online exhibit by photographer Kat Bawden: http://lenscratch.com/2020/12/kat-bawden/. While going through the text and photographs, keep the following focus question in mind: In what specific ways does this exhibit change or expand my vision of art in contemporary society? How is the exhibit unique given the circumstances of COVID-19? Which photographs were most interesting to me and why? Take notes as you study the artworks as well as additional images found on the artist’s website: http://www.katbawden.com. (Note: click on the “Perceptual Isolation link on the top left, then click the “Next” button on the bottom left to go through the additional images).

Finally, write up your answer to the following question in an essay of approximately 250-300 words: After viewing the Alfred Jaar video and the Kat Bawden project (“Perpetual Isolation”), how has your view of art changed? This change may be small or it may be significant — either is okay.
