What types of physicists are there?

There are many branches of physics out in the real world. We have thermodynamics, quantum mechanics, particle physics, and many more. Generally, though, we can sub-divide any physicist in any field into either one or two categories. These are the experimental physicists and theoretical physicists. While both types of physicists generally use math to describe nature and observations, theoretical physicists tend to use more advanced mathematics and cover topics that we are not expected to verify experimentally anytime soon.

On the other hand, experimental physicists use advanced machinery and equipment to undertake experiments to verify theories. Experimental physicists are the ones that are actually doing the scientific method of experimentation to not only verify the theories but expand on them and build upon them when some results do not match the theory.
