There are four management functions which include planning, organizing, leading, and controlling. The first function of management is planning which involves creating and defining goals for the future and coming up with ways to achieve those goals. The second function of management is organizing. Organizing involves creating an organizational structure by creating departments and delegating tasks to different employees or managers throughout the organization. For example, creating a human resources department and an accounting department would be an example of this. The controller would lead the accounting department and many of the financial tasks would be delegated from the manager to the controller. The third function is leading, which involves finding ways to motivate employees to achieve the common goals of the organization. Effective leadership is essential to a companies success. Employees who feel appreciated tend to work harder and smarter than those that feel they are not appreciated. The last management function is controlling. Controlling is the process of measuring the progress towards the common goals of the organization.
