The four steps to the briefing process are:

First, the person performing the briefing must analyze the situation being discussed to determine exactly what information needs to be conveyed, what instructions need to be given, and who needs to complete which tasks. Constructing the briefing involves organizing the thoughts and information in an order that is clear, concise, and structured (think of preparing a meeting agenda). Next is the delivery or the actual execution of the meeting. After the briefing, the facilitator must follow up with the attendees or staff to be sure the assigned tasks were completed successfully and to check to see if anyone needs additional information.
