The slaves are evidence of the time period because slaves were becoming very prevalent

during the period of 1615. Land owners at this time would accumulate a good amount of

slaves to different jobs around their land but the slaves were mostly put to work with

cultivating and caring for crops which was mostly tobacco. The place setting is shown

through the slaves as well because the southern colonies used slaves more than the

middle colonies because of their concentration on large scale production of crops
