The government justified the imposition of tolls on the new Champlain bridge by stating that it will totally fund the building of the new bridge so as to replace the Champlain Bridge in Montreal and the new bridge will be toll-free because tolls were being charged on the Champlain Bridge in the past years. All this funding has been included in the government's budget.
