Let your classmates and I know what two texts you would like to bring together in your Comparison Essay by completing the following steps:

1. Write the authors' names and the titles of their works.
2. List some comparable items/topics you notice these sources share. Focus on compare here.
3. List some items/ topics that the authors diverge on in their writing. Focus on contrast here. HINT: Remember, in a contrast, the topic must be the same, but the authors can diverge in their perspective of that topic. For example, "pride" could be a topic both Amy Tan and Maya Angelou address in their stories. However, Tan lacks cultural pride while Angelou and her community embrace it.
4. What would be the purpose of bringing these two texts together? Choose between the following reasons:
   • Consider how the writers deal with adversity, injustice, or humiliation differently or similarly.
   • Consider the transformative event he or she describes and analyze how the writer learns something valuable from that experience.
   • Consider the tone of the writer’s work.
   • Consider symbolism and language.
   • Consider the historical context surrounding the particular narrative.
5. Explain your answer to #4.
