How can water scarcity be reduced in metropolitan cities?

Water scarcity in metropolitan cities can be reduced by the following methods:

• Development of water filtration systems within the cities. Effective water filtration will produce clean water, free from microbes, bacteria, and other harmful contaminants. This system should be provided to schools, hospitals, homes, workplaces, and other possible places for clean drinking water.
• Water stewardship should be promoted. Examples like people taking shorter showers, reusing the grey water, plumbing the leaks and other water efficiencies, collecting rainwater, installing low flow toilets, and investing in other water reduction initiatives.
• Wetlands should be protected within the cities as they help to collect and purify the water. They are disappearing from the metropolitan cities at a very high rate.
• Water storage in reservoirs should be increased, as it will also help in collecting and holding the floodwater so that it does not mix with oceans, where it becomes more challenging to treat.
• Seawater can be converted into freshwater by the use of new technologies; this process is also known as desalinizing seawater.
