Assignment #2 and the two associated data sets are attached

Assignment #2 and the two associated data sets are attached.  Sorry about the delay in getting this to you; it always takes me a long time to put the finishing touches on these. The originally scheduled deadline for this is Wednesday November 25, but that's sounding a little tight, especially with Test 2 next week, so I will accept your A2 submissions without penalty until Wednesday December 2.

It's the same type of format as for A1.  There are 4 parts, and you will submit one pdf for each part. You may work individually, or in groups of 2 or 3. No groups of 4 or more, under any circumstances.  This is to encourage discussion, with the idea of helping you learn the material. It is expected that you work on all of the parts together, and not split it up into parts for each person. I very much view these assignments as a learning tool as much as an assessment tool, and you're depriving yourself of that if you ignore certain parts. With that in mind, it is entirely up to you whether or not you choose to work in groups or individually, and entirely up to you to make sure your group members are contributing. Should you, say, have problems where you split it up 50/50 with a friend, and they end up doing a crappy job on their portion, well, I don't want to hear how you deserve a better mark because you did a good job on your part. If someone is not carrying their weight, you are welcome to do the assignment individually. And, once again, it is expected that you work together on all parts.

Part 1 involves using R to create some plots and carry out an analysis for a two-sample problem.

Part 2 involves using R to create some plots and carry out an analysis for a one sample problem (it's a paired difference procedure, but I'm supplying the differences).

Part 3 involves interpreting some quantities in a couple of journal articles.

Part 4 involves analyzing a data set of your choosing.

We've covered the necessary material to complete this assignment. (Well, other than the interpretation of the result of an ANOVA from one of the journal articles in part 3, but that is pretty straightforward if you understand hypothesis testing and we'll cover it in a couple of weeks.)
