I believe that I should be selected for the Shawn Carter Foundation Scholarship because, like like, Mr. Carter,, I was born in Brooklyn and I have also growngrew up in a single- parent household; like him, d. Mr. Carter and I come from similar backgrounds andI have know what it's like struggled to work extra hard to get beyond or even to the same level asprove my worth alongside people students who caome from privilege. I feel that I can represent the SCFS in a matter that not only will make my family proud but also make Mr. Carter proud as well.On the foundation website are the words that “any motivated individual in need should have the opportunity to further his or her education.” I believe I am this individual: motivated, willing to use my strengths and to work to overcome my weaknesses, and humbled by the unique opportunity that this scholarship would give me to achieve not just my own goals, but to help others in my community to achieve theirs. My sincere hope is that, as the daughter of immigrants from El Salvador, I can build on the dream that my parents had in coming to this country. I can be the person they always wanted me to become, but I can also become my own person: a brave person prepared to take risks, to get back up when I have fallen, and, most importantly, to lend a hand to others when they have fallen.
