Evaluation research is not really a research design

Evaluation research is not really a research design. It is named such because of the moti¬ vation for the study. Various designs can be used by evaluation researchers, and they may be qualitative and/or quantitative. The inclusion of some qualitative measures can have a lot of impact on funding agencies. For example, if you are evaluating a program that helps prostitutes get off the street, then a measure of the number of individuals helped makes sense as a quantitative measure. But powerful stories of how individuals have been helped (a qualitative measure) can reinforce the decisions made by funding agencies.
