In your first semester at University, you learnt about the Cognitive Appraisal theory of emotions. You are impressed by the theory and how it explains the cause of emotions. You are now considering using the Cognitive Appraisal theory to explain to your friend how his/her anger is activated. 

 

Question 3a: Write a paragraph briefly explaining to your friend how the Cognitive Appraisal theory explains the cause of his/her anger. (4 marks)

 

Questions 3b: Having explained how anger is activated based on the Cognitive Appraisal theory of emotions, provide an example of how your friend may seek to manage his or her anger using the same principles of the Cognitive Appraisal theory of emotions. (3 marks)

Michelle has been seeing Dr Rogers, a psychologist for the past year. Recently he has helped her grasp that the cause of her problems is incongruence between her “real self” and “ideal self.” To ensure Michelle understands what he means, he asked her to provide an example that demonstrates what it feels like to be incongruent.
