Case StudyBinder's Beverage Bill Binder's business was almost over when the state of Colorado came close to passing the bottle law. Binder's Beverage makes soft drinks for many large grocery stores in the area. After the law of the bottle was discarded, Binder's Beverage flourished. In a few years, the company had a larger plant in Denver with a warehouse east of the city. The problem was getting the finished product to the warehouse, although Bill was not good with distances, if he was good with times. Denver is a large city with numerous routes that could be used from the plant to the warehouse, which are shown in Figure 11.33.
The soft drink plant is located on the corner of North Street and Columbine Street. High Street also intersects North and Columbine where the plant is. Twenty minutes north of the plant on North Street is I-70, the most important east-west highway in Denver.
North Street crosses I-70 at exit 135. It takes five minutes to drive east on I-70 to get to exit 136. This exit connects I-70 with High Street and 6th Avenue. Ten minutes east on I-70 is exit 137. This exit connects I-70 with Rose Street and South Avenue.
From the plant, it takes 20 minutes down High Street, which goes northeast, to get to West Street. It takes another 20 minutes on High Street to get to I-70 and exit 136.
It takes 30 minutes down Columbine Street to get to West Street from the floor. Columbine Street goes east and slightly north.
West Street runs east to west. From High Street, it takes 15 minutes to reach 6th Avenue on West Street. Columbine also reaches this intersection. From this intersection, it takes another 20 minutes down West Street to get to Rose Street and another 15 minutes to get to South Avenue.
From Exit 136 to 6th Avenue, it takes 5 minutes to get to West Street. 6th Avenue continues to Rose Street, which takes 25 minutes. 6th Avenue then goes directly to the warehouse. From Rose Street, it takes 40 minutes to get to the warehouse by 6th Avenue.
At Exit 137, Rose Street goes southwest. It takes 20 minutes to reach the junction with West Street and another 20 minutes to reach 6th Avenue. From Exit 137, South Avenue goes south. It takes 10 minutes to get to West Street and another 15 minutes to get to the warehouse.
