(Final week!)

 

This week we will discuss three basic questions regarding growth challenges and strategies:

 

1. Why grow your business?
2. What are the growth challenges?
3. How to grow your business?

Here's a checklist of tasks to complete by the end of this week:

Required: 

• Read through this week's online Course Materials and Chapters 13 & 14. 
• Online Quiz for Week 10

§ To complete this assignment, click “tests” from the course menu, "Week 10 Quiz". 

• Business Model Canvas: Develop a business mode for the business idea that you conducted the concept testing earlier on this semester, and visually depict your initial business model using the Business Model Canvas Framework in a narrated PowerPoint presentation. Assume that you are presenting to a room full of venture capitalists when the firm is in its start-up stage, and cover the following contents:
  1. Cover page with business name
  2. Business Model Canvas
• Value propositions
• Customer segments
• Customer relationships
• Channels
• Revenue streams 
• Key partners
• Key activities
• Key resources •    Cost structure

 

3. Because the business idea is in very early stage and many of the contents are estimates, you need to discuss your assumptions in each of the components and how to test them in the future. 

You can record your presentation using the function “Record Slide Show” in PowerPoint or insert “Audio” on each slide. If you don’t have access to PowerPoint, please contact the instructor and arrange an alternative way to deliver the presentation. Both the contents and the delivery will be considered when the presentation is graded. 

Before recording your presentation, please remember the following:

• Prepare, prepare and then prepare some more.
• Choose the content carefully. The slides should be informative but not overwhelming.
• Remember that you are trying to persuade, and the presentation should be delivered in a compelling way. 
• Show enthusiasm but temper it with reality checks.
• Rehearse before you give the presentation.
• Don’t overlook the basics

• Individual Interview Report: Please interview at least one person with entrepreneurship experience (e.g., founders of startups/entrepreneurs) and complete an interview report. In the report, you need to address

 

• • The backgrund of your interviewee(s) o Why did they choose to start their own business? o What make their business successful (or unsuccessful)?
  • What are the biggest challenges they face during the venturing prcess and how did they overcome these challenges?

 

I am looking for more than description and storytelling. So you need to apply the theories and concepts we discuss in class to analyze your interviews and draw the conclusions. Your report should be 2-3 single-spaced pages in length.
